Wisdom From Zeke, at the Farm in Owl Hollow, Tennessee
Howdy folks. Lizzy and I have been praying for rain. It’s so dry the trees are bribing the dogs. We are watering our garden by hand, which is time consuming. So far we are staying on top of it. Our vegetables still look good. Our neighbor Clem wanted some maters. Marybeth was going to cook up some taters and maters for their supper, because their kids were going to come and sit a spell tomorrow night. Lizzy bagged up some so I could take them to Clem. Timing was just right because we had some nice big, red beefsteak maters. Now Clem and Marybeth’s place is a fur piece from our farm. You go north on the old Mill road until you come to a two-tracker that goes off to the left. But don’t turn there, keep going until you come to the corner where Jeremiah’s barn used to be and turn right. Clem and Marybeth’s place is down the road a couple of miles. I pulled in their driveway and they both came out and greeted me. They paid me and thanked me over and over again. Lizzy and I wasn’t sure if they had any kind of religious beliefs. So, I was determined to ask them about their relationship with Jesus. As far as we knew, they didn’t go to church. Marybeth invited me to come and sit on the front porch and she would bring me a big glass of ice tea. Perfect opportunity. I asked them point blank, “Do you know where you will spend eternity when you pass?” Clem said heaven, because they were good people and treated others well. Then I asked, “Who do you say Jesus is?” They didn’t really have a very good answer. For the next hour, I explained that Jesus is the Son of God, and He came to earth for us. Jesus was crucified and shed His blood for our sins. He died and was resurrected on the third day, and is in heaven interceding for us. I always carry my little New Testament, so I opened it up to John 14:6, and showed them the only way to Heaven is to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Clem scratched his head and said they had some thinking to do. I finished my ice tea and invited them to church next Sunday. Clem was non-committal. He said the church might fall down if he came. But Marybeth said they would both be there. I prayed before leaving, asking God to help them understand what Jesus did and that their sins could be forgiven. I was excited to get home and share this with Lizzy. We will continue to pray for Clem and Marybeth.
Until the next time,
God Bless – Zeke and Lizzy
