Wisdom From Zeke, at the Farm in Owl Hollow, Tennessee
Howdy folks. Just came in from a hot and long day plowing 10 acres on our farm. Not sure what we are going to plant, but Lizzy and I have been praying for guidance from God. Call me old-fashioned but I still believe God still wants us to depend on Him for everything in our lives. I remember old Clyde who lived down the road from us. He passed some years back. Clyde lived alone and never married. He was so poor he had a tumbleweed as a pet, but Clyde always said God had blessed him beyond measure. So Lizzy and I believe God will answer our prayers regarding what we should plant. Anyway, when I came in Lizzy was in the process of fixing supper. I headed for the shower to wash away the dirt and grime you get from plowing. Now I know, some of you think just because we live in Owl Hollow we don’t have modern conveniences like a bathroom and showers. We even have a tub that Lizzy insisted on. We did have an outhouse about 5 years back and an old tub that we had to fill by hand. Actually, we were considered part of the upper crust here in Owl Hollow, because our outhouse was a 2 seater. I still think some folks thought we were stuck-up. Having an outhouse is not desirable in the winter here in Tennessee. Getting up at 2:00 am, putting on your pants and coat, grabbing a flashlight and walking or running, depending on the situation, down the path to the outhouse is not a fun experience. Since the seats in the outhouse are not heated, it will wake you up. Also there is a risk of splinters in that you can get in personal areas. Because of the things I just mentioned, we both had slop-jars to be used during the night and had to be emptied every morning. Yuk! So Lizzy and I both agreed to add an indoor bathroom on our house. The best thing we ever did. Well back to my story, after a shower and a wonderful supper of fried chicken, mashed taters, gravy and collard greens followed by a big piece of apple pie I helped Lizzy clean up the kitchen. Then I gathered my pipe, tobacco and Bible and went out on the front porch to my rocker. Lizzy and I both have a rocker that we spend the evenings in just relaxing after a long day. I opened my Bible to Jeremiah and started reading. I have read several chapters in Jeremiah, but the Lord really spoke to me this time. God told Jeremiah that He was going to use the young man to tell folks in Jerusalem and Judah that He was going to judge their sins because they would not repent and return to Him. Lizzy and I don’t have a television, just a radio that we sometimes listen to. We get our news from Sid and Else who own the General Store in Owl Hollow. They have a television and keep up on news events in our country and the world. We go to the General Store every Saturday morning and plan on sitting with Sid and Else over coffee. They tell us what’s going in the USA and the world. As I sit here in my rocker, I got to thinking, since God doesn’t change and He always keeps His promises, He will judge our country and the world for their sins also. The Bible says He is a just God and will not tolerate sin. I shared this with Lizzy and we agreed to pray for people that they will repent and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior before God lowers the hammer of judgment.
Until the next time,
God Bless – Zeke and Lizzy
