God is in Control – Zeke’s Wisdom

Wisdom From Zeke, at the Farm in Owl Hollow, Tennessee

Howdy folks.  Can’t hardly believe July is about gone.  It’s Tuesday here on the farm and we are getting a pretty good rain.  Nothing big, just a slow drizzle.  Can’t do much today in the garden or the fields, so decided to get a haircut at BBs Barber Shop in Owl Hollow.  The owner and barber, is Billy Bob but he prefers to go by BB. I am glad my parents didn’t name me Zeke Bob.  Zeke is bad enough.  BB has never been married and I think he is in his middle sixties.  Two doors down there is a dress shop owned and operated by Birdie.  I think Birdie is about the same age as BB, but it is hard for me to tell a woman’s age.  For the last 20 years or so, Birdie has been setting marriage traps, but old, sly BB has avoided stepping in one.  BB is so skinny that if he stood sideways and stuck our his tongue, he’d look like a zipper.  I guess Birdie wants to put some meat on his bones, but BB won’t have it.  I heard that BB and Birdie have supper together every Friday night at Cora’s Café, but I think that is as far as it goes.  They have pretty good food at the café and is reasonable.  Thankfully, since it is the only one in Owl Hollow.  Lizzy and I will treat ourselves occasionally and eat there.

When I walked into the Barber Shop, I could tell BB had his knickers in a knot.  He was wound up tighter than a guitar string.  It seemed BB didn’t know whether to check his rear-end or scratch his watch.  This was more than a little concerning to me since BB was going to cut my hair with clippers and scissors.  It is a little risky even when BB is calm and not nervous.  He charges $5.00 for a haircut, but sometimes it costs you $20.00, because you have to buy a hat for $15.00 to cover your head and wear it for three weeks.  I have a hat rack at home with probably two dozen hats I have collected over the years as a result of visiting BB’s Barber Shop.  So now, I bring a hat with me just as a precaution and leave it in the truck.  And I am thinking I just might need it today.

I was the only one in the Barber Shop, so I asked BB what was bothering him?  He was all tied up in knots because of the upcoming election and just couldn’t believe people would believe some of things being reported on the news.  Lizzy and I don’t have cable, so we are restricted on the channels we get at home.  Just between you and me, we hardly ever watch TV in the evenings and are too busy during the day.  We would both prefer to read the Bible or Christian books when we are relaxing on the porch or in front of the fireplace when it is too cold to sit outside.  We generally catch up on the news on Saturday when we go to Sid and Else’s General Store.

I told BB to calm down, and think about what God told us in His Word.  He said don’t worry about anything, pray about everything, tell Him what is bothering you, trust Him and He will give you peace.  The kind of peace that the world cannot understand.  God also tells us that He determines who has positions of authority in every country in the world.  God has a purpose and uses them in His master plan for the world.  He also tells us He has our backs, so trust Him and concentrate on our Christian walk here on earth.

BB thanked me and said he felt better after being reminded again of God’s Word.  Well, I am also thankful, because I didn’t have to wear a hat for three weeks.

Until the next time,

God Bless – Zeke and Lizzy
